Introduction

I’ve been at many companies that have paid a ton of money to get a simple, but good, project management tool.  It always seemed excessive, so I built a free, open-source SPFx web part that brings project management into SharePoint – backed entirely by native SharePoint lists.

I’ve been at many companies that have paid a ton of money to get a simple, but good, project management tool.  It always seemed excessive, so I built a free, open-source SPFx web part that brings project management into SharePoint – backed entirely by native SharePoint lists.

Five views in one web part

  • Gantt Chart – drag-and-drop bars, dependency arrows, phase groupings, milestone diamonds, and Day/Week/Month/Quarter zoom levels
  • Kanban – drag cards across Not Started / In Progress / On Hold / Completed / Cancelled columns
  • List – spreadsheet-style grid with inline status and priority editing, sortable columns
  • Dashboard – project summary at a glance
  • Portfolio – cross-project overview with health indicators, progress bars, task counts, and a mini timeline. Click any card to jump into that project.

Task features

  • Sub-tasks with parent/child hierarchy
  • Task dependencies with visual arrows on the Gantt
  • Phase grouping (collapsible sections, consistent color per phase)
  • % complete progress bar rendered inside Gantt bars
  • Milestones rendered as ◆ diamonds
  • Automatic health status (On Track / At Risk / Overdue) computed from dates and % complete

Import options

  • Excel or CSV (works with exports from MS Project, Asana, Monday.com, Jira)
  • Microsoft Planner (buckets → phases, assignees, priority, and % complete all map automatically)

Export options

  • Excel – full task list with all fields
  • PowerPoint – ready-to-present 4-slide deck with cover, summary, Gantt image, and recent activity
  • PNG – full-resolution Gantt chart rendered at 2× with current color and theme settings applied

Each project gets its own SharePoint list – no external database, no app registration required for core features.
