ABOUT THE SESSION
Your enterprise just enabled Multi-Geo. Your perfectly working SPFx solution? It’s now silently failing for 30% of your users.
Search results are incomplete. User profiles return empty. Term store lookups fail mysteriously. Support tickets are exploding, and you have no idea why.
After 5 years of building SPFx solutions for Multi-Geo enabled enterprises, I’ve seen every way this can go wrong, and I know exactly how to fix it.
Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo is essential for GDPR compliance and data sovereignty, but it fundamentally changes how your SPFx code must behave. The Search API, Graph API, User Profiles, Term Store, and even App Catalog deployment all work differently, and the documentation doesn’t make this obvious.
In this session, I’ll share the patterns and pitfalls I’ve learned across multiple enterprise implementations. We’ll walk through a realistic scenario: migrating a 1,000-user organisation from single-geo to a Multi-Geo environment spanning three continents and examine exactly what breaks and how to fix it.
You will learn:
Discover why Search REST API returns partial results in Multi-Geo and the single property that fixes it
Understand how user profiles distribute across geo locations and the correct APIs to discover them
Learn the one-way replication model of Term Store and why your taxonomy appears “missing” in satellite locations
Uncover the Azure AD configuration required to make Graph API work from satellite geos
Build a reusable “Multi-Geo Toggle” pattern that makes your SPFx web parts geo-aware
You will also see:
Real code patterns that work in production today
Common mistakes I’ve seen teams make (and how to avoid them)
A decision framework for when Multi-Geo awareness is actually necessary
Prerequisites: Solid experience building SPFx web parts, comfort with SharePoint REST API and Microsoft Graph, and understanding of OAuth/Azure AD basics.
This isn’t documentation theory. This is 5 years of lessons learned across multiple enterprise clients distilled into 60 minutes so you can get it right the first time.
Assumed Knowledge:
Solid experience building SPFx web parts, comfort with SharePoint REST API and Microsoft Graph, and understanding of OAuth/Azure AD basics
Practical Takeaways:
– Techniques to implement cross-geo Search, User Profiles, and Taxonomy in your SPFx solutions – A clear understanding of which APIs are Multi-Geo aware and which require code modifications – Pre-migration audit checklist to identify Multi-Geo issues before they hit production – Troubleshooting flowchart: map common symptoms to root causes and fixes
Out of Session Scope:
– Multi-Geo licensing, pricing, or procurement decisions – Tenant provisioning and satellite geo configuration (admin tasks) – Exchange Online, Teams, or OneDrive multi-geo specifics – Data migration strategies or migration tooling
