Zach showcased a new floating action button embedded directly within SharePoint sites. This acts as the primary entry point for AI interactions and dynamically adapts based on the context of the page.

For example:

  • On a landing page, the AI can summarise or improve site content
  • On a product list, users can ask questions such as:
    • “What products are out of stock this week?”
  • Users can request changes in plain English, including:
    • Adding new items
    • Colour-coding columns
    • Organising content

The experience is designed to feel conversational while significantly reducing the effort required to manage SharePoint environments.

From Simple Requests to Complex Business Processes

The session moved beyond basic prompts into advanced workflow orchestration.

One demonstration focused on automatically creating a “deal room” document library complete with:

  • Predefined folder structures
  • Copied templates
  • Organised document management

Once configured, the process could be saved as a reusable AI skill.

This means future users only need to issue a request such as:

“Create a new deal room for Fabricam.”

The AI agent then handles the setup automatically.

This capability introduces significant operational efficiencies for repeatable business processes across departments such as sales, legal, HR, and operations.

AI-Generated Reports and Interactive Visuals

Another standout demo highlighted AI-driven reporting capabilities.

Using existing SharePoint deal rooms, the AI iterated through data sources and generated interactive HTML reports containing:

  • Pipeline summaries
  • Leaderboards
  • Business insights
  • Interactive visualisations

Microsoft is positioning SharePoint AI not simply as an assistant, but as an active participant in business workflows capable of aggregating information and presenting actionable outputs.

Skills and Context: The Key to Real Business Value

A major focus of the webinar was the importance of “skills” and “context files.”

Zach explained that moving from impressive demos to genuine business value depends on teaching AI how organisations actually work.

Skills

Skills are reusable workflows or instructions that can be saved and shared across teams. These live within the Agent Assets library and can be versioned and governed like any other SharePoint asset.

Examples include:

  • Site provisioning standards
  • Deal room creation
  • Document processing workflows
  • Content organisation routines

Context Files

Context files (.mmd) provide organisational knowledge to the AI.

For example, a context file could specify:

  • Fiscal year definitions
  • Internal terminology
  • Business rules
  • Team processes

This reduces repetitive prompting and improves consistency across AI-generated outputs.

The AI agent operates using the permissions of the signed-in user, ensuring compliance with existing security models.

Integration and Future Direction

During the Q&A session, attendees asked about integration with Copilot Studio and broader Microsoft AI ecosystems.

Currently, there is no direct agent-to-agent communication model between Copilot Chat and SharePoint’s worker agent framework. However, Microsoft indicated that broader interoperability is being explored for future platforms and experiences.

At present, the preview is available at no additional cost for organisations already licensed for Copilot, once enabled by administrators.
