ABOUT THE SESSION
Not everyone starts their career in tech with clear guidance, support, or role models. For some, the path is visible early. For others, it has to be figured out step by step.
In this session, I’ll share my journey into tech: From growing up in an environment where education for girls was not a given, to building a career in computer engineering, becoming part of the Microsoft community, and contributing as an MVP.
This is not a story about overcoming everything against all odds, but a reflection on what actually helps when the path is unclear, learning without a roadmap, navigating self-doubt, and finding your place in a community where you may not initially see yourself represented.
We will look at:
– how to approach learning when you don’t have a predefined path
– how to find or build a community that supports your growth
– how to deal with setbacks, confidence gaps, and being “the only one in the room”
– how small, consistent steps shape long-term progress more than big turning points
The session also explores the role of community in creating more inclusive pathways into tech. Through initiatives like TechStylers, I’ll share what it means to move from finding your own way to supporting others; and why this matters for the future of our industry.
This session is for anyone navigating their career in tech, especially those who are still figuring out where they belong, and for those who want to help make that journey easier for others.
